Important Resource for North #Okanagan Businesses and Professionals set to close! Please read & attend Open House #Vernon

I got this email from the CBD Network (Vernon) and wanted to draw your attention to not only this Open House Event, but also to the importance of the service that this company has provided – not only to unemployed professionals, but also to companies within the North Okanagan.

CDB stands for Career and Business Development. This company provides career management services for its clients, and acts as a Human Resource agency for local employers. An overview of the program can be obtained here.

CBD Network (Vernon) would enjoy the pleasure of your company if you are able to join us to celebrate the conclusion of our 6th successful year in the North Okanagan, and our nomination for this year's 2011 Business Excellence Awards - Personal / Professional Business of the Year.

Please drop by any time between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 17th to celebrate with us.

Snacks and beverages will be served.

We also expect that some of our local elected public representatives will be in attendance, as well as local media representatives.

This would be a great time to let your voice be heard if you support CBD's efforts to remain in operation in Vernon beyond the proposed May 2011 closure.  Let your elected officials know that unemployed professionals need and deserve to have specialized services that are designed to fit the unique needs of the professional job seeker.  We hope that some media coverage at the event will spark a renewed interest in continuing to fund our specialized and valuable services.

Please RSVP to alison@cbdnetwork.com before February 15th, 2011.

We look forward to seeing you at this event!

When it comes to employment we likely have all uttered words such as “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” How then, does one prepare to shift careers in a world that now puts us in multiple “jobs” or career paths? How do we access the decision-makers and influencers if we are new to the community? CBD presents a unique format of job search skills, learning and support that has changed the careers of 100’s of people in the Vernon community.

On the other half of the equation – CBD has cultivated relationships with an incredible amount  of Large and small local businesses. In doing so- it has lowered the operational cost of each business by eliminating time from the candidate screening process. Matching candidates to positions and personalities to corporate values from a unique perspective is an service that many local business can ill afford to contract out. Yet getting the right person in the right position can make all the difference to a small business. Getting the hiring decision wrong can break the business.  CBD coaches are in a unique position that allows them to pre-screen for employers (and for candidates) and effect matches that are based on far more in-depth information than the standard interview process affords.

I think this is a vital service for our community. One that can only be delivered locally... by people from our community who have relationships with businesses in our area. The concept of delivering the program from a centralized location within the Okanagan will, in my opinion, diminish the effectiveness of the results of this programme by at least 2/3 and render a negative return on investment for the financial contribution made.

If you are a business in the area – or a local professional –I urge you to become informed about this company. Attend the Open House, and lend your voice to the cause. None of us can afford to lose this service.

See you online,
